Philadelphia Eagles: Sidney Jones out, Rasul Douglas possibly in
Philadelphia Eagles fans who’ve been clamoring for more Rasul Douglas may get their wish after an unfortunate injury to starting slot corner Sidney Jones.
Whenever you hear the term hamstring injury, hearts skip a few beats, especially when we’re talking about NFL football and important players leaving the playing field in the first quarter. Such was the case with the Philadelphia Eagles‘ starting slot corner, Sidney Jones. Does his injury mean that we’ll now see more of Rasul Douglas?
The emergence of rookie corner Avonte Maddox clouds the possibility of that being a foregone conclusion, but it is a very real possibility.
Let’s look at some numbers.

So far in 2018, Douglas has taken the field for 52 defensive snaps, a little less than 14 percent of the team’s total. That’s 95 less snaps than Maddox has been given.
During the first game of the NFL’s sixth week of action, the Eagles utilized Maddox at both free safety and slot corner. Douglas, when on the field, was given opportunities at both free safety and the right cornerback position.
That doesn’t tell us much, but in the eyes of many, Douglas hasn’t seen the field enough.
During the first five weeks of action, Douglas’ contribution was basically nonexistent, but after seeing him pick off a pass in limited action versus the Atlanta Falcons and after seeing what he did a season ago, many fans and analysts have had the same question.
Why isn’t this team utilizing this team more than they already are? That’s a question that may never be answered, but here we are.
According to Eagles head coach Doug Pederson, Jones is ‘week-to-week’. With that being said, everyone ready to see what Douglas can produce will probably, now, get their wish.
That opportunity just happens to be coming in a way that most wouldn’t have hoped, with the Eagles now having to shuffle more bodies after an injury..
