As the trade deadline approaches (and the temperature drops), the Philadelphia Eagles put on their winter coats and went fishing in Denver.

We’re entering the final week that NFL teams can make trades, and the Philadelphia Eagles have been busy. No, that hasn’t resulted in them landing any big fish, but as expected Philly’s vice president of football operations, Howie Roseman, has been making some well-publicized moves.

Not too long after we learned that ‘The Birds’ tried to strike a deal to land Amari Cooper from the Oakland Raiders, we also learned that several players on the Denver Broncos‘ roster had Philly ‘casting a wide net’ as Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports put it recently.

Apparently, Philly made a call to the ‘Mile-High City’ to inquire about, not only cornerbacks Bradley Roby and Chris Harris Jr., but also wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders and, possibly, Demaryius Thomas.

Here’s what we can gather.

Philly’s obviously on the hunt for a cornerback. While rumors of a trade to bring Le’Veon Bell to town have all but faded (as they should), so have rumors about, possibly, bringing LeSean McCoy back to town.

One name that has been on everyone’s radar is Patrick Peterson, and with the aggressive nature of Roseman, there’s no reason to believe Philly hasn’t set their sights on him as well.

The Eagles have produced up-and-down results in the secondary all season, and seeing as how, Dexter McDougle was on the field a lot on Sunday, after only being added to the team a few days prior, it appears that we’re a long way from finding a consistent mix at the third level to cure Philly’s woes on defense.

Expect trade rumors about bringing Peterson into the Eagles’ nest to heat up very soon. Whether those rumors turn into something tangible remains to be seen.
