Former Eagles wide receiver Jason Avant shares his opinion on Doug Pederson
Former Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Jason Avant does not like where this team is currently headed.
The Super Bowl win feels like a decade ago at this point. Let me just remind everybody that the Philadelphia Eagles are currently the defending Super Bowl Champions, in case you forgot. Great. Now that we got that out of the way let’s talk about how bad this team looks in 2018. This time around though, we will see it from a former Eagles player’s perspective.
Remember Jason Avant? He was a Former Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver who always made the most difficult catches in clutch time. He wasn’t the biggest guy and didn’t have the highest stats. But he was a very reliable target during his time with the Eagles. He’s been here for some good times and has also been around for some bad.
Avant has been in Philadelphia for some of the Andy Reid era, and even the beginning of the Chip Kelly days. The end of the Reid era perfectly painted the picture of a coach losing his grip in his current situation. The beginning of the Chip Kelly era was the start of something that would quickly come crumbling down.
If there’s a guy who can spot a locker room storm coming, it’s Jason Avant. And although he’s made it clear he has no inside information on the Eagles organization, Avant’s best judgment tells him that something is going on in the Eagles locker room, and Eagles fans are not going to be happy hearing this.
What does Avant’s judgment tell him?

Jason Avant joined 97.5 The Fanatic sports radio show on Tuesday morning to talk Eagles. He didn’t say a whole lot, but there was one statement that set everybody off. Jason Avant suggests that Eagles head coach Doug Pederson is “losing control of this team.” Already? Really?
Less than a year ago, Pederson was earning Gatorade baths for taking a team that went 7-9 in 2016, to winning a Super Bowl the following year. Now, he’s losing control of the locker room? Again, this is Avant’s opinion from the outside looking in, but considering that Avant is familiar with Pederson, and other head coaches around the league, you sort of have to trust his judgment to an extent.
It’s doubtful that the 2018 Eagles have given up on Pederson. But it would also be crazy to think that some guys within the locker room haven’t grown skeptical of Pederson and his staff this season. Sure, the team as a whole has been underperforming, but the coaches haven’t been on top of their game as well. The Eagles are playing uninspiring football, and the coaches don’t seem to have an answer for it.
There’s hardly any adjustments being made when things are going wrong, and the 2018 Eagles have been playing flat-out dull football this season. It’s tough to believe that Avant is right about Pederson losing the locker room, but he definitely sees what a lot of us have noticed this season – Doug Pederson is not doing a very good job in 2018.
