It appears we’re no closer to reaching a resolution to Michael Bennett’s legal matter. According to several sources, his court date has been rescheduled yet again.

It seems like this has been hanging over the Philadelphia Eagles and Michael Bennett for quite some time, but truthfully, it hasn’t been that long. On March 7th of this year, excitement found its’ way through Philly’s fan base as ‘The Birds’, who had already won their first Super Bowl, added one of the most talented pass rushers in the game.

The thanks for that one were owed to yet another shrewd business move by Eagles executive vice president of football operations Howie Roseman. Then, seemingly, faster than you can say ‘Fly Eagles Fly’, we learned Bennett had been indicted on felony charges in Texas.

This all stemmed from an alleged incident on February 5th of 2017 where he was accused of forcing his way onto the field at at NRG Stadium following Super Bowl LI. An elderly woman was injured in the process.

On Wednesday, we learned that we’re no closer to a resolution as there’s been another postponement. Bennett’s case may not be heard until the season ends. That is, unless of course, Philly makes another deep run in the playoffs.

Bennett’s court date has been postponed from June 27th to August 7th, from August 7th to September 18th, from September 18th to October 17th, and from October 17th to November 28th. Now, it’s been pushed back yet again. The new date is set for January 10th of 2019.

Much of the questions that have been asked revolve around whether or not this would affect his availability for his new team and why it took 14 months to indict him in the first place.

The answer to the first question seems to have been answered. We don’t know how to answer the second except to echo Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo’s explanation that his department chose to attack what they felt were more important cases first.

Rusty Hardin is Bennett’s defense attorney, and he told NBC Sports Philadelphia that the state is still doing more interviews. Take a look:

We’ll all be monitoring this one closely, but we’ll also have to wait and see what happens.
