Stefen Wisniewski is upset about leaving the Eagles
After finding out he wouldn’t return to the Philadelphia Eagles, Stefen Wisniewski took to Twitter to talk about his situation.
The last week or so has been very productive for the Philadelphia Eagles. As they retained some of their own guys by re-signing new deals, and cutting checks for new players, the Eagles also had to go through with the hard part of the offseason. That’s making some cuts, or in other words, ‘declining options.’ There haven’t been many cuts yet, but the Eagles got rid of another one of their key pieces to their 2017 Super Bowl season by declining Stefen Wisniewski’s option.
Now, Wiz was no Super Bowl MVP like Nick Foles, but his blocking up front undoubtedly helped out the Eagles a ton. There were no high expectations for the left guard as he started the year out on the bench in 2017. But he eventually worked his way into the game and was on fire for the back-end of the regular season, and in the playoffs.
Unfortunately, 2018 didn’t go the way Wisniewski would imagine. For some reason, he was benched a few games into the season. There were tons of questions as to why since his play didn’t seem bad enough to get benched, but there are many assumptions, none of which were confirmed by the Eagles coaching staff. Clearly, Wisniewski was not a favorite. Therefore he will find himself in the Free Agency market this offseason, and he’s not very happy about it.
Wisniewski reacts to his release
“I am sad to be leaving.”
Wisniewski became somewhat of a fan favorite after the 2017 season due to putting multiple massive blocks on defenders in the Divisional Round of the playoffs. Wiz took that momentum of the fan base and ran with it. He spent last year’s offseason interacting with everybody via social media and even turned his Eagles helmet into a centerpiece for his kitchen table, which his wife approved of.
Unfortunately, Wisniewski’s days in Philly are finished. After the team extended left guard Isaac Seumalo last week, the writing was on the wall for Wiz. Now, he will have to entertain offers through Free Agency as it is official he is finished in Philadelphia. Hopefully, Wiz finds a team that will give him another opportunity to grow on their offensive line.
