The 2019 NFL Free Agency market treated Jordan Matthews right as he lands on the West Coast on the San Francisco 49ers.

The Philadelphia Eagles were fortunate enough to get back one of their old wide receivers on Monday when they traded for DeSean Jackson. Unfortunately, the cost of that means they will lose two of their own. Earlier on Thursday, it was reported that Eagles’ temporary slot receiver Golden Tate would sign a major deal with the New York Giants.

Now, another Eagles wideout is off the market and out of Philly. It has been reported on Thursday night that Eagles veteran wide receiver Jordan Matthews will be signing with the San Francisco 49ers. The 49ers will be Matthews’ fourth team now since he’s been in the league.

Matthews heads out West

Last season, Matthews didn’t have the opportunity to play the entire year with the Eagles. Just a few weeks into the season, the Eagles figured out that they needed to bring on more depth after losing Mike Wallace and still being without Alshon Jeffery. Matthews was made available by the New England Patriots, as he never really got off to a start with them.

The signing of Matthews made sense for the Eagles at the time. Although he wasn’t expected to come in and take over the receivers unit, he played a solid role in the absence of Jeffery and Wallace, and he was even great for depth for the remainder of the season as well. He finished up his second stint with the Eagles by catching 20 passes for 300 yards and two touchdowns.

Also, Matthews played in his first two career playoff games this year with the Eagles. During the divisional round, he was the first player to score and put the Eagles on the board with a 37 yards touchdown catch from Nick Foles. Although Matthews didn’t play a significant role in Philly last season, hopefully, he hits his stride with the 49ers.
