Is Donovan McNabb the most beloved athlete in Eagles history? Not exactly. In fact, his time in Philly left a bad taste in many fan’s mouths. And to this day, McNabb cannot get most of the fan base on his side all because of his off-field actions.

It’s unfortunate, but it’s the truth. McNabb has been to many NFC Championship games, but he’s only gotten past that final round of the conference once. We all remember that Super Bowl in 2004 like it was yesterday.

The Eagles couldn’t seal the deal, and many blame McNabb for that. Sure, No. 5 had his late postseason struggles, but imagine what that Eagles team would be like without McNabb at the helm. Times could’ve been much worse.

Take away his post-Eagles actions, and it would probably be a lot easier for Eagles fans to crown McNabb as the franchise’s best.

The numbers don’t lie, so we shouldn’t either. During 11 seasons in midnight green, McNabb won 92 games, losing only 49, and tying once (yes, we all remember the tie).

He leads the franchise in passing yards with 32,873 yards. He tossed 216 touchdowns and only 100 interceptions. He might not be a Pro Football Hall of Famer, but he wasn’t wrong when he mentioned his numbers are better than Troy Aikman’s, who is in Canton.

Face it Philly, McNabb is the best quarterback to don the Eagles green. Maybe one day somebody like Carson Wentz will surpass his total numbers, but that day hasn’t come just yet. There’s a reason No. 5 is forever off-limits.

There’s a reason he’s got his own personal banner on top of Lincoln Financial Field and there’s a reason McNabb is one of the face’s of the Eagles own Hall of Fame. You don’t have to like him as a television personality or an analyst, but you have to respect what McNabb has accomplished during his decade as the Eagles’ franchise quarterback.
