Philadelphia Eagles to host public practice on August 4th
The Philadelphia Eagles are set to host their one and only practice of training camp on Sunday, August 4th at Lincoln Financial Field.
Time truly flies by, doesn’t it? Ladies and gentlemen, it’s August. It seems like New Year’s day was a few months ago, but it wasn’t. The second calendar day of 2019’s eighth month means a few things. One, there’s no on-field Philadelphia Eagles football to talk about. It’s a day off for the players.
The second thing is sure to get Eagles fans charged up. On Sunday, August 4th at Lincoln Financial Field, ‘The Birds’ will host their one and only public practice of 2019’s training camp starting at 7 PM EST.
PhiladelphiaEagles.com gives us a full report on what to expect. Here are a couple of the highlights:
1. This doubles as Military Appreciation Night, and tickets are ten dollars.
2. The event is sponsored by Dietz & Watson, and as part of their appreciation, all active and retired military members are going to be given a voucher. That will earn them a hot dog and soda at no charge. That’s not all. They’ll also be able to take 15% off of purchases at any Eagles Pro Shop.
Sure, we all would have loved to see more public practices. Older Eagles fans can, no doubt, think back to some pretty awesome days at Lehigh University. Two years after purchasing the Eagles for $195 million, their chairman and CEO Jeffrey Lurie moved camp to Lehigh valley in 1996.
It would stay there for 17 seasons before former Eagles coach Chip Kelly would take it upon himself to move camp to Philly’s own practice facility in South Philadelphia.
There were some hurt feelings when it was learned that Sunday’s public practice would be the only public practice of 2019’s training camp. On July 23rd, team president Don Smolenski made a rare appearance just one day before camp began to offer an explanation.
Fast forward. Fans have healed, for the most part; and Sunday figures to be a lot of fun. In addition to everything else that will be going on, select members of each branch of the military will take part in several activities, including a flag football game and a post-practice jersey exchange with some of their favorite Eagles players.
This is one you need to make if you’re able to do so.
