In conclusion, is this the end of the line for Kessler?

McCown’s signing could also mean that we’ve seen Cody Kessler in an Eagles jersey for the final time.

According to Spotrac, Kessler commands a base salary of $720,000 while, as mentioned, McCown gets a guaranteed $2 million. It would seem as though you’d keep the less expensive guy, but it’s also hard to imagine a scenario where Philly gives McCown $2 million and incentives only to get rid of him a few weeks later.

It’s also hard to imagine that there would be four guys on the roster at quarterback when Sudfeld returns. Philly could release McCown, but again, that’s a lot of money down the drain.

They could also place Thorson on the practice squad, but if they do that, another NFL team could swoop in and sign him.

Maybe none of this is a big deal as most expect big things from Wentz, but if you don’t know anything else as an Eagles fan, you know there has to be some quality insurance at the backup quarterback position. Philly’s given themselves some options. We’ll have to wait and see what happens.
