Philadelphia Eagles dodged a bullet with Antonio Brown
The Philadelphia Eagles had interest in wide receiver Antonio Brown months ago. Thankfully, the team didn’t make a trade happen.
There’s nothing like offseason drama in the NFL. Of course, it’s only entertaining when your favorite team is nowhere near involved, though. When it comes to the Philadelphia Eagles, the drama is nowhere to be found right now. But if a rumored offer from the Eagles to the Steelers would’ve been accepted, the story would be much different.
Before OTAs, training camp, and the preseason started up, all eyes were on offseason trades and signings. Specifically, all eyes were on the Pittsburgh Steelers. As they were preparing to lose their running back Le’Veon Bell to free agency, their star wide receiver Antonio Brown wanted out as well. Except in his case, the team had to trade him away.
For a while, the Steelers were shopping Brown around. As expected, Howie Roseman and the Philadelphia Eagles were in on the action. Before they managed to get DeSean Jackson back in Philly, the veteran they eyed up was none other than, Antonio Brown.
At first, it sounded like nothing but rumors. But a recorded call between Brown and his agent, Drew Rosenhaus surfaced the net confirming that the Eagles were a potential landing spot. While Brown sounded interested in working with Carson Wentz and the Eagles, Roseman wasn’t able to make it happen… Thankfully.
Brown becomes a problem
Last season, a rift between Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and Antonio Brown caused tons of behind the scenes drama, which quickly became public. While a lot of the blame got placed Roethlisberger, and Steelers’ coach Mike Tomlin, Brown seemingly got left off the hook.
As Brown was traded to the Oakland Raiders, everybody expected everything to be smooth sailing from then on. Well, that’s not the case. In fact, Brown’s situation with the Raiders has been everything but smooth. From missing practice suddenly because of frostbitten feet to refusing to play because he couldn’t wear his helmet, Brown has been everything but helpful in Oakland.
Now, new reports surfaced about Brown getting into an altercation at practice with the Raiders’ General Manager, Mike Mayock. The Raiders wideout allegedly threatened the GM and left the practice facility on bad terms. With that, Oakland has to not only suspend Brown but potentially consider trading or releasing him as well.
The situation is very unfortunate for the Raiders but becomes great news for the Eagles, who weren’t able to make a significant enough offer to acquire the wideout. Sure, Brown’s talent is undeniable, but at this point, his actions are unbearable for an NFL locker room.
