Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Zach Brown looked foolish after Kirk Cousins torched Philly’s secondary on Sunday.

Trash talking can be fun in a competitive sport such as football, but sometimes it can come back to bite a player if they do not back it up. This week, Philadelphia Eagles veteran linebacker Zach Brown decided to indulge in some smack-talk himself. Unfortunately, it all backfired.

Just a couple of days before the Eagles’ road matchup against the Minnesota Vikings, Zach Brown was asked about the Vikings offense. Specifically, the media wanted to know what he thought about Minnesota’s quarterback, Kirk Cousins.

Considering that Brown played with Cousins when they were both with the Washington Redskins, everybody thought it would be interesting to hear Brown’s take on the quarterback. To no surprise, Brown didn’t have much good to say. In fact, he clowned Cousins in a way.

As Brown mentioned that all the Eagles have to do is stop the run on Sunday. That way, they will force Cousins to throw the ball, which is good because he’s bound to make mistakes. In hindsight, the Eagles linebacker probably didn’t realize he could be digging a hole for himself on Sunday if the team doesn’t come correct.

Of course, the Eagles defense failed to help back up Brown’s bold take on the Vikings’ quarterback. While the Eagles did contain the run better than most defenses would, Cousins ended up torching the Eagles and their secondary for a total of 333 yards, and four touchdowns.

After the game, Brown couldn’t avoid questions about Cousins’ performance, so the veteran linebacker visibly grew frustrated. While he did credit Cousins for his solid production, it was clear the Eagles linebacker might’ve regretted expressing his negative thoughts towards his opponent days before playing them.

While Kirk Cousins claims he didn’t know about the comments, erasing any ‘bulletin board’ material thoughts — it still offers a good lesson for the Eagles. As they have their own handful of issues to deal with, it’s probably best if their players tone down the trash talk for a bit as they continue to clean up their own problems.
