Former Philadelphia Eagles head coach Dick Vermeil talked about Carson Wentz’s accuracy and protection issues during a recent interview with 94 WIP-FM’s Angelo Cataldi.

By now, you’ve probably heard all of the Carson Wentz news that you feel like hearing, especially if it’s related to whether or not he’s the Philadelphia Eagles‘ issue or how much of an issue he is if the person stating that believes it to be true. Even with all of that being said, former Eagles head coach Dick Vermeil offered some insight that you might find interesting about Philly’s QB1.

Recently, the man who led the Eagles to their first Super Bowl appearance was a guest on 94 WIP-FM’s Angelo Cataldi and the Morning Team show. At the time of this writing, the audio for that one hadn’t been published yet, but you can best believe Coach had much to say.

He believes Wentz is doing a great job as Philly’s starting signal-caller, but he does offer one area where things can improve. Coach says, and this is paraphrasing, the left guard (Isaac Seumalo) gets pushed back too often, and he’s too big for that to happen.

In Coach’s opinion, much of Wentz’s accuracy issues could be attributable to his constant duress. For Wentz, as is the case with any quarterback, that and other issues that he’s had early on in games leads to errant throws as games wear on. That isn’t to say he shouldn’t be held accountable for missing wide-open receivers, but it might help explain what we’ve all been seeing in recent weeks.
