The Philadelphia Eagles take a cornerback in a recent 2020 NFL Mock Draft, and if you’re a fan, you’re going to love the idea.

The last time we were talking about a former LSU Tigers cornerback who had the potential to make waves in the NFL but also had some character concerns, the Philadelphia Eagles pulled the trigger and things seemed to work out pretty well.

That corner’s name was Jalen Mills, who some saw as a potential second-round selection. He’d end up sliding to the sixth round. How good Mills has been in Philly has been the subject of some back and forth in Philly’s fan base, but if you think about it, a sixth-round selection becoming a starter and being a key piece in a title run wouldn’t qualify as being bad news to anybody. Could history be repeating itself come 2020?

In a recent NFL mock draft cooked up by those stat gurus over at Pro Football Focus, Michael Renner, the story’s writer, has the ‘Birds’ going with a cornerback with the 12th-overall selection. It looks like Renner isn’t putting Philly in the playoffs, huh?

This time, the ‘Bayou Bengal’ on the Eagles radar is Kristian Fulton, a six-foot cover man of the 200-pound variety. Like MIlls, Fulton played his college ball for the LSU Tigers. Like Mills, he’s been the subject of some controversy.

Following his freshman season, Fulton was suspended by the NCAA for a period of two seasons. He was accused of tampering with a drug test. He appealed the decision, first in February of 2017, That was denied in March, leading to him sitting out the 2017 season. A second appeal was filed, and the NCAA’s ruling was overturned on August 23rd of 2018.

He’s been on the straight and narrow since, and despite a season-ending ankle injury as a junior, he entered his senior season as a preseason All American. He’s played well as a senior. At the time of this story being published, he’s racked up 30 tackles (20 were solo), and he’s added an interception and 11 passes defended to his career resume.

Many believe he might be a day-one prospect come April’s draft. Here’s some of what Renner had to say.

"Fulton was the highest-graded coverage corner in SEC play this season. He earned an 89.7 coverage grade in both 2018 and 2019. That’s consistency and a sample size worth trusting. There’s no need to even dive into why the Eagles need a corner."

Put this one on your draft boards guys. It may be interesting to see if Philly takes an interest as well.
