The Carolina Panthers have been denied their request to sit down with a Philadelphia Eagles executive to interview him for their executive VP job.

There aren’t any days off in the NFL. With 32 franchises, there’s always something to talk about, and on the same day the Philadelphia Eagles lost their defensive backs coach to the Detroit Lions, the Carolina Panthers requested permission to interview Philly’s vice president of football operations Andrew Berry for their executive VP job.

That was confirmed by multiple sources, including those that reported the news to ESPN’s Adam Schefter before Ian Rapoport reported that sources informed him that Philly denied them that opportunity about an hour later.

It appears the Eagles’ efforts to build stability isn’t of any interest of every other NFL franchise. Philly’s looking to fill their vacant offensive coordinator position as well as the vacancies that they have at wide receiver coach and defensive backs coach, and while those are huge holes to fill, they’ve now learned there’s some interest in a very gifted member of their front office.

Berry is still being considered for the Cleveland Browns’ general manager position. Philly won’t be able to block that interview because it’s for a GM position.

It’s the offseason for many of the teams in professional football, and they’re attempting to get better as well. That’s the nature of the business.

Whenever teams show any stability or that they’re building a culture, the other 31 franchises are watching, and they’re looking to see if you have any execs, coaches, or players they can take from you. We’ll all be following this one closely to see if there’s an interview and ultimately if the Eagles wind up with another major hole to fill in an organization that’s looking to build some traction.
