2 First-round trade scenarios that make sense for Philadelphia Eagles

Don’t rule out the idea of the Philadelphia Eagles getting greedy and deciding that they don’t want to wait around until the 21st pick to make some noise.

Has anyone else pondered the idea that Howie Roseman and the Philadelphia Eagles may not be satisfied with sitting idly at 21 to make their first-round selection in the 2020 NFL Draft? Is anyone else feeling like they might trade up? They certainly don’t need to, but we probably shouldn’t rule out the possibility.

As funny as it sounds, much of the idea for this story came on the heels of what UFC president Dana White said. He recently expressed his desire that Tom Brady leave the New England Patriots and align himself with the Las Vegas Raiders (man, it’s going to be hard to remember not to call them Oakland).

Take a look.

As strange as that sounds, after seeing that, several members of the ITI staff got in a long discussion about Al Davis, how he always loved guys who were fast, and how he’d be turning over in his grave about how slow the Eagles’ offense looked in 2019.

That then made us think about someone that everyone’s fallen more in love with, Henry Ruggs, who was talked about as being the guy who could break John Ross‘ record 40-yard dash time at the NFL Combine recently. Ruggs fell short of doing so, but no one’s ticked about a mark of 4.27 seconds either.

Now, Ruggs’ draft stock, which was already high, is soaring, and it’s difficult to imagine a scenario where the guy who was often mentioned in conjunction with the ‘Birds’ and that 21st pick is available when Philly is on the clock.

Now, it seems as though the Eagles’ only shot at Ruggs would come with a trade. Again, there’s no reason for the ‘Birds’ to trade up. This draft class is loaded with wide receivers, but draft picks in Roseman’s hands are like Monopoly money. Might he channel his inner-Al Davis and decide a guy that runs a sub-4.3 second 40 is too attractive to ignore? Here are two trade scenarios that may work if that’s the case.
