The Eagles have invested a lot into their defensive line, particularly on the edge. They’ve taken one in every draft since Doug Pederson has been at the helm, but regardless of what they and most of the rest of us see from any of them production-wise, we’re constantly fed by Coach Pederson and defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz that everyone’s on the right track.

That just isn’t true.

Okay, when you think about it, you can understand what’s going on. Nothing fruitful comes from the Eagles coaches bashing their players in front of the media, but we all know Vinny Curry doesn’t need any more chances. We all know this team got nothing out of Shareef Miller in his first season as a professional, and we all know that has to change quickly (especially since we’ve been told that the best is yet to come).

That brings us to guys like Josh Sweat and Derek Barnett. The former isn’t where he should be in his development, but he’s shown that he can be decent from time to time. The latter just had his fifth-year option picked up. This has to be the breakout season. He’s long overdue. He’s been given the vote of confidence over and over again. There are no more excuses. It’s time for him to be the guy he was drafted to be.
