5. player. 54. . . . Kenny Jackson (1984-'88), (1990-1991)

Fourth-overall selection, 1984

You could talk about Eagles football for an entire NFL season, and Kenny Jackson‘s name might be one that never comes up.

Twice given the honor of being named an All-American during his days with the Penn State Nittany Lions, the program’s first All-American at the position by the way, Jackson hauled in 109 receptions for 2,006 yards and 25 trips to the end zone throughout 45 career games at the collegiate level.

He added another 174 yards and two more touchdowns on 22 career rushing attempts and was a key piece of the University’s first winner of the College Football National Championship after an amazing season in 1982. By the time his playing days in “Happy Valley” were over, he was the owner of quite a few program records, and that led the “Birds” to welcome the New Jersey native to their nest with the fourth-overall selection of 1984’s version of the NFL Draft.

If only all of those stats would have translated to the professional level. The former first-rounder saw two teams and two stints in an Eagles jersey and was only able to manage 122 receptions, 2,139 receiving yards, 125 punt-return yards on six attempts, and 11 touchdowns in an Eagles jersey. That’s pretty good for a backup slot receiver, but most would expect more from a former fourth-overall selection.

It may seem harsh, but those are the facts.
