January 20th, 2019: Future Eagles corner Nickell Robey-Coleman’s most memorable moment

We applaud Robey-Coleman for making a name for himself after going undrafted in 2013. We remember his hustle and hard work with both the Buffalo Bills and the Los Angeles Rams. We tend to forget to bring up one blemish on his resume though.

There seem to be fans that have forgotten or just don’t know that it was Robey-Coleman who went “Hulk Smash” on Tommylee Lewis on January 20th of 2019 in the NFC Championship Game during one of the most famous non-calls of pass interference in league history.

Then again, it’s hard to call this moment a “blemish”. It helped end what was a potential New Orleans Saints game-winning drive. That helped send the game into overtime, and send the Rams would punch their ticket to the Super Bowl after the Saints won the overtime coin toss and failed to score or stop the Rams from scoring.

With that being said, even though everyone knows that Robey-Coleman committed pass interference (and was guilty of initiating a helmet-to-helmet collision and a violent blow on what might be a defenseless defender), could we argue that this was one of his better plays? Heck, it helped the Rams achieve the desired result, didn’t it?

Well, that’s probably a stretch, maybe, but the effect this play has had on the game we love is a topic that can’t be debated.
