Does anyone remember when the Philadelphia Eagles brought Elijah Holyfield in during the 2019 season?

Ever since Elijah Holyfield joined this Eagles roster in 2019, the theory has been that, perhaps, his greatest value lies in the fact that he doesn’t share very many similarities with the other backs. If Philly wants a stable of backs and not a ‘committee’ of guys who all do the same thing, the former Georgia Bulldog may possibly the best short-yardage and goal-line guy that’s here.

Seriously, no one wants to see Miles Sanders hammering the ball up the middle of the defensive formation for a two-yard gain three or four times a game, do they?

Philly hasn’t been able to replace LeGarrette Blount since his run with the team in 2017. Josh Adams was okay but a less-talented version. He just couldn’t hold on to the football. Philly tried to make Jordan Howard a part-time downhill runner, but eventually, the punishment took its toll on him as well.

There’s basically no wear and tear on Holyfield. He turns 23 years old in November. He was relatively healthy in college. A few totes here and there might work. It keeps him fresh. It keeps the Eagles from trying to turn Miles Sanders into a jackhammer, and most importantly, it moves the chains on third down. He’s had a good camp. This could work.
