Here’s some good news coming out of Philadelphia Eagles camp.

All that was supposed to happen was the Philadelphia Eagles were going to focus on the full-gameday experience. Guys would drive their own cars to Lincoln Financial Field, suit up, and participate in a scrimmage, one that included tackling.

Most of us thought that we’d be talking about who’s distancing themselves as the best prospects for Philadelphia’s 53-man roster and, perhaps, who’s taking over for Andre Dillard at left tackle. Instead, we’re discussing injuries. Of course, we’re talking about injuries! Why wouldn’t we be talking about injuries in discussing this Eagles team?

Carson Wentz and Dallas Goedert were both present, but they didn’t participate. Quez Watkins is also still missing in action, but perhaps the biggest news came by way of a sloppy showing by the team as a whole, particularly on offense and the scariest part of the whole session, a moment where this year’s 21st-overall selection in the most recent NFL Draft, Jalen Reagor, put a lump in everyone’s throat when he left the field with an injury and didn’t return to participate.

There’s some good news, sort of. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported at about 2:30 p.m. EST that early indications show that this may not be anything serious. Team doctors have performed an MRI on what appears to be a shoulder injury. The results, at the time of this story being published, aren’t known yet, so we’re not out of the woods, but this is the best news you could hope for after Reagor’s workday on grass ended a bit prematurely.

For now, frowns are turning upside down around the Philadelphia Eagles fan base.

As for right now, let’s chalk this one up as a lesson learned for the Eagles rookie wide receiver. Never make any meaningless tackles in games that don’t count during scrimmages when the scoreboard isn’t even turned on.

Over the past three seasons or so, it’s been easy to point the finger at Philly’s medical staff, but you can’t blame them for this one. Let’s hope this team and its players exercise the utmost caution as September 13th approaches. Update: Per Geoff Mosher, the Eagles believe ‘Reagor has a very slight tear in his labrum and is waiting on a second opinion’. At that time, it was believed that surgery wasn’t needed, but there had been conflicting reports. Either way, it appears as though Philly’s first-round selection will be out for what might be four weeks.
