Clinton-Dix isn’t what he once was, but he can help the Philadelphia Eagles.

By now, you’ve probably said to yourself that Jalen Mills might be one of those guys that you could call a man without a position. He gets beaten much too often to play corner. He hasn’t done much to prove to anyone that he should be playing the safety position at the game’s highest level, even if he simply transitioned back to the same position that he played in college.

Still, as ugly as it’s been for Mills as a cover guy, he’s often been asked to be ‘the guy’. It might actually be better for him if he’s ‘the other guy’. With a legitimate top-tier cover guy on the roster in Darius Slay, Mills doesn’t have as much pressure on him as he’s had in the past if he’s needed to cover the other team’s second-best player.

As scary a proposition as that is, most can probably agree that there’s no real guarantee that Mills still isn’t better than Avonte Maddox or Trevor Williams on the outside. Plus, moving him back to his original position with the Eagles opens the door for Philly to get K’Von Wallace on the field more or add someone like Ha Ha Clinton-Dix at a reduced rate.

The latter has racked up 553 total tackles, 44 pass breakups, four forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries, and 19 interceptions in 103 career NFL games with 97 starts. That includes seven career playoff games. He’s also a better option than Damarious Randall, Eric Reid, or Reshad Jones.
