847. . . . Round 1: Caleb Farley, Virginia Tech. . player

There are a wealth of ACC prospects available for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Who are we kidding? Once you heard the words “ACC-only mock draft” and Round 1, 90 percent of you had to be thinking about Virginia Tech’s star corner Caleb Farley in Round 1 right? While no one would give you any grief for that, the decision to take him in this mock was a lot more difficult to make than you might expect.

Just 12 months ago, most of us believed that, if they were healthy, the Birds had the best and most talented roster in the NFC East, at least on paper anyway. 12 months later, they have one of the worst. This team could literally address any position at six and probably find the top guy on the depth chart at that position.

The top two defensive ends in this draft are from the Miami Hurricanes, Gregory Rousseau and Jaelan Phillips. Travis Etienne from Clemson is one of the best running backs in this draft class as well. Philly is probably going to miss the opportunity to land Notre Dame’s Liam Eichenberg and Wake Forest’s Carlos Basham later on based on when they might go and where Philly is slated to pick.

It’s a common problem in every selection meeting. There are a lot of good players available, and Philadelphia isn’t going to land every single one of them.

Still, when it all comes down to it, when we talk about the best players available, Philly can’t go wrong with Caleb Farley. As soon as he walks into the NovaCare Complex, he’d be the second-best cornerback on the roster after Darius Slay.
