Matt Ryan, Week 1. . player. 44. . .

The Philadelphia Eagles get an above-average quarterback in Week 1.

Okay, say what you want about Matt Ryan. He may never win a Super Bowl. It’s difficult to argue that his nickname, ‘Matty Ice’, was one that he had earned. You can argue how much better guys like Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady would be if you gave them Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley.

You can’t argue that Matt Ryan isn’t still better than half of the NFL’s starting quarterbacks. When he had a brilliant offensive coordinator, he won League MVP, and now, with the addition of a young man that might turn out to be the best non-quarterback in the 2021 draft class, Kyle Pitts, Week 1, all of a sudden, looks like a game Philly can’t win.

You never know though. That’s why they play the games, but at the time of this story being published, Julio is still on the team. Philly’s first game in 2021 is with a new coach, a new regime, and a quarterback that has four starts to his name.

By comparison, this will be Ryan’s 216th start (if you include the playoffs). You can stick Darius Slay on somebody, but at least two or three of Ryan’s options will see mismatches and often. Week 1 could be a big day for number 2 in the red jersey.
