Wait are we still concerned with the Philadelphia Eagles at cornerback?

If you read Inside The Iggles regularly, you’re probably fairly familiar with our belief that this Philadelphia Eagles team has some unique traditions. There are too many to get into here, but for the sake of this story, we have to bring up one that’s fairly obvious.

You’ve probably noticed by now that every season, we’re talking about Philly’s need for wide receivers, cornerbacks, and linebackers. It doesn’t matter who they sign. It doesn’t matter who they add in free agency, they’re right back in the same position every offseason.

This year, two of the complaints about what they’ve done to upgrade the secondary are as follows. They haven’t been as aggressive as they should have been in finding a compliment to Darius Slay. They also haven’t been intentional about really finding some answers for the cornerback position in the NFL Draft or in free agency.

During the most recent selection meeting, they waited until Round 4 to draft one (Zech McPhearson). Then, with Steven Nelson, someone who could upgrade the unit, being available on the free-agent market, the Birds seem to have shown they’re uninterested.

If they walk into the 2021 NFL season with things as they are now, this will again be seen as one of the weak points on the roster. Ten cornerbacks sit on the current training camp 90-man roster. Two more sit on the team’s injured reserve. We’ll discuss the latter point more in a few. For now, let’s talk about the active guys. Here’s a ranking of all ten cornerbacks on the Eagles roster from top to bottom.
