Well, this didn’t work. Perhaps Philly should have known something was up when a division rival gave up on one of the best players that they’ve had over the course of the past ten seasons.

Naturally, as you’d assume with a team that employs Howie Roseman as their vice president and general manager, they did not. The Eagles closed their eyes and dove in headfirst, inking Ryan Kerrigan to a one-year deal worth $2.5 million.

He has one tackle on the season, one that he, honestly, earned accidentally.

From the 2011 season right up until Ryan Kerrigan’s final season with the Washington Football Team in 2020, he tallied 454 total tackles and 95.5 sacks over the course of 156 regular-season games with 141 starts.

Here’s clearly a shell of his former self. He isn’t producing, and in each of the Eagles’ first seven games, his time on the field decreased. Check out his snap counts during those contests: Atlanta Falcons (35), San Francisco 49ers (32), Dallas Cowboys (27), Kansas City Chiefs (22), Carolina Panthers (21), Tampa Bay Buccaneers (16), Las Vegas Raiders (13).

Some would even support the theory of the Eagles making Kerrigan a healthy scratch for the remainder of the season. It’s doubtful. Howie Roseman and Jeffrey Lurie would rather be right than good, but we’ll all be keeping an eye on how this plays out and what Ryan’s role is moving forward.
