Philadelphia Eagles: 5 Teams who can partner in trade for Derek Barnett
The Philadelphia Eagles and Chargers may want to discuss Derek Barnett.
Cap room: $11.4 million
Don’t look now, but the Los Angeles Chargers are a good football team now! There are still needs at EDGE (which is probably their most significant) as well as a need at the tight end position and along their defensive line’s interior.
Simply put, to take the next step, the Chargers need to make life easier for their quarterback by finding him a tight end. They also need guys who can make life tougher for the other team’s signal-caller.
Now, Barnett may not be able to do that on his own, but throw Barnett in a mixture that includes Derwin James, who has 1.5 sacks and two forced fumbles on his 2021 resume, Joey Bosa, Kyler Fackrell, and Jerry Tillery all wreaking havoc. That means that Barnett should, at minimum, be a nice role player in that rotation.
We’re shoving the chips to the middle of the table here. The Chargers want to rule the roost in a division that houses the Kansas City Chiefs and an improving Las Vegas Raiders squad. They also have $11.4 million in cap space. Might they be buyers for some EDGE help at the trade deadline?
You never know. Philadelphia Eagles vice president/general manager Howie Roseman needs to be aggressive though. As you can see, there are quite a few teams that could use Derek Barnett on the roster.
