Miles Sanders could return to Eagles lineup sooner rather than later
Well, the band isn’t totally back together, but they’re hanging out again and even playing a few notes. The Philadelphia Eagles may be very close to reintroducing third-year running back Miles Sanders back into the lineup as they announced that they’re activating a 21-day practice window for one of their young stars.
Sanders has been on the team’s injured reserve since the day before Halloween. This after he suffered ankle and foot injuries in Philly’s Week 7 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders.
The Eagles can now elevate him to the active roster at any time during the next three weeks. If they choose not to, he’ll return to the injured reserve for the remainder of the season.
From where we’re sitting, this looks like a positive step in the direction of knowing that he may be on the field sooner rather than later. Fingers are crossed this way.
Buckle up. We could see Miles Sanders very soon.
Now, what most of you are thinking is obvious. Miles Sanders just got his 21-day window activated. How can we be assured that he’ll be back soon?
Well, if recent history has taught us anything, it’s this. Typically, if the Birds go so far as to activate a practice window for someone on their IR, they’re pretty sure about his readiness to play. Brandon Brooks would be an obvious exception to that rule.
Brooks sat on the injured reserve from June 15th until about December 30th of last season when he began practicing with the team again. In the end, Philly would elect not to elevate him to the roster as it was determined that they didn’t want to chance anything by rushing him back onto the field.
This feels different. Sanders actually announced, via social media, that he was ready about a week ago. We just didn’t have that substantiated by a team doctor. Now, he’s able to practice.
Feel free to go back and forth about whether or not he should be plugged back into the lineup upon his return or about how much he should play, but here’s the point.
The Eagles aren’t in any position to turn down help from someone that has proven that he can help this team win. Look at this one as a victory, and you can best believe that everyone will be watching very closely for updates.
