3 key riddles Philadelphia Eagles must solve to beat Washington
Why do the Eagles forget about the running game as much as they do?
At this point of the NFL season, every team should have been able to determine what their identity is. Only the Good Lord in Heaven can help them if they haven’t. In the City of Brotherly Love however and around every other city in which Birds fans dwell, the elixir for stagnant Eagles offense has long been identified.
Simply put, Philadelphia is a running team, even if they’d love to be something else.
Sure, every team and its home crowd is energized by bombs and those chunk plays. Offseason after offseason, the NFL has done all that it can, rule-wise, to make things easier on the offenses.
However, you can also argue that, while we celebrate quarterbacks who are mobile and create those highlight-reel moments, in professional football, those frenetic last-minute drives at the end of games more often than not, come down to the quarterback having to make a throw from the pocket to win.
It’s been said that the Eagles can’t win consistently if all they do is run the ball, and then we all saw the New England Patriots beat the Buffalo Bills on national television without airing the ball out at all. Do with that information what you will
Yes, to consistently compete, Philadelphia will need to know that they can rely on their quarterback’s arm. Still, the fact of the matter is this. They won’t be in games late with a chance to win if they forget to run the ball as they’ve done so often during the 2021-2022 season.
We’ll have to wait and see if they employ the run early versus Washington and stick with it, even if they don’t see the immediate results.
