Nick Sirianni may prove the Eagles dodged a bullet with Brandon Staley.

Though it may feel like the Eagles fired Doug Pederson and began that head-coaching search two years ago, it really hasn’t been that long. Let’s rewind to January for a few seconds though.

Most of us had heard of Brandon Staley, but we didn’t know a ton about him other than what he had done as the L.A. Rams defensive coordinator. Then, we heard that he was on Philadelphia’s radar but wasn’t interested. We later learned that was because Howie Roseman had turned him off.

We all know how things worked out. Staley landed with the L.A. Chargers. The Birds wound up with a coach that no one even knew was a candidate. Still, by the looks of things, Nick Sirianni has an opportunity to be a better head coach than Brandon Staley.

Dare we say that Philly dodged a bullet, or is it too early to do so?

Yes, Nick Sirianni tops this ranking of NFL rookie head coaches, and no this isn’t a homer pick. He’s better the Smith. He’s better than Saleh, and in four games versus other rookie head coaches, he has a winning record (3-1). His only loss was to the second guy on this list, Brandon Staley.

So why is Staley number two on this list you ask? The answer is quite simple. The NFL is about winning and getting your team to the playoffs. Both Staley and Sirianni have identical 8-7 records, but if the season were to end today, Philly would be in the postseason as a seventh seed, and the Chargers would be on the outside and looking in.
