Why concerns over Jalen Hurts increased following Joe Burrow’s success
Jalen Hurts has arguably done less with more than Joe Burrow has.
Say what you want about Jeffrey Lurie and Howie Roseman. Sure, both think they know more about roster construction than they do. Sure, the argument can be made that Jeffrey should have moved off of Howie a long time ago, but here are two things that can’t be denied.
You can’t fire the boss, and the Eagles’ Chairman and CEO trusts his vice president/general manager.
Here’s a controversial statement while we’re on the subject. The Philadelphia Eagles could do a lot worse than Jeffrey Lurie and Howie Roseman. No one wants to win more than either one of these two, and they’ll do anything to see that happen.
There’s been reason to be frustrated. There’s no denying that, but there’s a reason why being an Eagles fan has been less frustrating than being a fan of the ‘Bungles’ over the last three decades. Philadelphia’s leadership structure cares more.
Lincoln Financial Field… the NovaCare Complex… the Super Bowl win a little over four years ago… All of that came during Jeffrey Lurie’s tenure, as did the winningest coach and the most prosperous stretch in the history of the Philadelphia Eagles. Meanwhile, there’s been little to cheer about in Cincinnati.
Free agents don’t want to go there to play. Ownership is cheap and stingy, and the Bengals are the only northern NFL team that doesn’t have an indoor practice facility. Joe Burrow arrived, and the team won anyway. He’s winning despite the franchise’s culture. He’s winning despite bad ownership.
Think about it. Who’s had the better head coach (or in Jalen Hurts’ case, coaches)? Is it Hurts or Burrow? Who’s seen their organization put more of an effort into building the offensive line? Is it Hurts or Burrow?
The Eagles can win with Jalen Hurts. That’s been proven, but Burrow has done more with less. He has his team on the brink of a world title, and we aren’t certain the Eagles will make the playoffs next year. That’s a problem. Agree or disagree, those are the facts.
