The Eagles select Rasul Douglas at 118 instead of 99.
We’ve seen drafts where some of the big stories surround great players falling. We don’t discuss players with lesser talent being overvalued due to player shortages as often. We tend to talk about that during free agency, but it can happen during a selection meeting from time to time too.
The 2017 NFL Draft didn’t give us a ton of excellent cornerbacks from Round 2 on. Only one, the aforementioned Shaquill Griffin, made the Pro Bowl, so with that being said, even though the Eagles drafted Rasul Douglas at 99, nothing suggests that, had they waited until the 118th-overall selection, that Rasul Douglas wouldn’t have still been there for the taking. He’s the choice at 118 over that Mack Hollins fellow.
Original selection: Mack Hollins, North Carolina
In 2017, only one cornerback was taken between the Eagles’ selection of Douglas at 99 and their next selection at 118. His name was Brendan Langley who’s now a wide receiver for the Calgary Stampeders.
We repeat. The Eagles still would have gotten Douglas at 118 had they waited.
Douglas gets picked on a lot. He’s slow, but he’s solid. Something tells us he’d be a much better safety, but what do we know, right?
