2020 NFL draftees the Eagles shouldn’t have ignored (besides Jefferson)
The Eagles took John Hightower five spots before the Bears selected Darnell Mooney.
Despite taking JJ Arcega-Whiteside in Round 2 of the 2019 NFL Draft, the Eagles entered the 2020 NFL Draft with a serious need at the wide receiver position (JJAW bombed too). They’d wind up taking three. The best of the bunch was the third one they took.
With the 200th-overall selection in Round 6, Philadelphia selected Quez Watkins. John Hightower got the call to join the nest in Round 5 just 32 spots earlier. Perhaps the Birds should have gone with Darnell Mooney. Believe it or not, his numbers are also better than Reagor’s are, and the Chicago Bears got him four rounds and 152 spots after Philly got the former TCU star.
In 33 regular-season games, Mooney, often with substandard play at the quarterback position, has found a way to produce 142 receptions for 1,686 yards, and he’s found his way to paydirt eight times, He’s also credited with ten totes for 52 yards, and he’s reached the end zone once as a rusher. Hightower, on the other hand, has struggled to find his place.
Hightower has 14 games with four starts to his credit. He has ten receptions for 167 yards on his resume. He has yet to score his first NFL touchdown and may be in danger of losing his job prior to the next regular season.
Yes, we’d definitely take Mooney if we could orchestrate a do-over.
