31. . . . Saquon Barkley, Giants. . player

The Philadelphia Eagles have had more than their fair share of issues with Saquon Barkley, but he’s clearly on the decline.

Throwing Saquon Barkley into this conversation may be viewed as a lazy form of storytelling, but let’s be frank. For there to be a sense of overhyping, there must first be some sort of buzz with which to work.

Ask yourselves a serious question. What do New York Giants fans have to be excited about? MetLife Stadium was cool once upon a time, but it’s falling apart. Daniel Jones can’t play. It’s hard to remember who plays for this team sometimes.

Drafting Kayvon Thibodeaux and Evan Neal seem like steps in the right direction, but they don’t have hype trains yet per se. With that being said, whether by default or by Saquon being the only member of Big Blue that the rest of the NFL cares about, he’s our pick for the Giants’ most overhyped player.

Why? Well, there are two reasons. One, we keep hearing about this comeback tour that never happens, one that we’ve again heard will take place in 2022, and second because we were stuck, we reached out to our friend Braulio Perez, a site expert and editor over at G-Men HQ, FanSided’s home for all things relating to the Giants. Here’s what he told us.

“He’s a former No. 2 overall pick and a lot of people are jumping on the bandwagon leading up to next season now that Brian Daboll is in town. However, there was plenty of hype for Barkley last year leading up to the campaign since he was fully recovered from his ACL injury. We saw a slower, less dynamic player. While he could have a monster year, there’s going to be plenty of people doubting him until he can prove he’s ready to get back to his old ways.

What more needs to be said? That sounds like the textbook definition of overhyping someone, doesn’t it? Saquon Barkley has more than earned his spot on this list.
