The Lions are an intriguing test for the Eagles in Week 1, and three of their best players could create a few headaches.

The wait is almost over. The Philadelphia Eagles will take the field for their first game on September 11th. As you know, the opponent was, most recently, the featured team of the 2022 summertime installment of HBO’s Hard Knocks, the Detroit Lions.

Both teams feature players and/or coaches with connections to both franchises (and Avonte Maddox is from Detroit). Former Birds running back and coach Duce Staley is now the Lions’ assistant head coach and running back coach. Former Eagles backup Nate Sudfeld has also found his way to the Motor City. We all know Darius Slay‘s story. He traded  Honolulu blue and silver for midnight green after spending his first seven seasons with the Lions.

This matchup will look a little different than it did last season as the Eagles beefed up their roster with new playmakers on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. Those additions followed Philly’s blowout win over Detriot last October and a nice close to the season.

The Birds will be the favorite to win this game as well, but don’t be so quick to count the Lions out. This squad has some playmakers. Here are three that are the largest threat to an Eagles Week 1 triumph.
