NFL Power Rankings: Tier 8 (the NFL’s cellar)

Houston Texans. 32. team. 10. . 0-3-1.

While the Houston Texans haven’t earned a win yet, they’re getting close. They’ve tied with the division rival Indianapolis Colts. They lost by three points to the Chicago Bears. Second-year signal-caller Davis Mills has only been able to produce five touchdowns (while throwing four interceptions), but rookie running back Dameon Pierce might become a lone bright spot for this team.

58. . 1-3. . Washington Commanders. 31. team

The first NFC East team lands here at 31. The Washington Commanders pulled off a win versus the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 1, and they’ve looked flat ever since. Carson Wentz has been sacked 17 times in four games, and an offense with eight turnovers coupled with a defense that only has two takeaways is a recipe for failure.

15. . 1-3. . New Orleans Saints. 30. team

The New Orleans Saints being ranked 30th (and riding a 1-3 record) is good news for the Eagles as they own the Saints’ 2022 First-round draft pick. New Orleans is dead last in turnover differential (-7), and they’re currently 1-2 versus the other members of their division. With a new head coach and a team rattled by injuries, the Saints face an uphill battle.

1-3. . Carolina Panthers. 29. team. 87.

Despite upgrading to Baker Mayfield under center, the Panthers are only 1-3. Christian McCaffrey can’t get completely healthy, but he has played in all four of Carolina’s games. It just hasn’t helped.

McCaffrey has averaged 4.7 yards per carry, yet the Panthers are still in the bottom third of the NFL in rushing attempts, yards, and touchdowns in 2022. The Panthers also find themselves in the bottom third in the NFL in passing attempts, completions, yards, and touchdowns. There isn’t much to get excited about here.
