Eagles roster: Extensions, player roles, other ideas about the defensive line
Eagles interior defensive lineman Javon Hargrave
2021 Pro Bowler Javon Hargrave came to Philadelphia in March of 2020 on a three-year $39 million contract. Since his arrival, he has amassed 19 sacks in 40 games. He has also turned in 20 tackles that have resulted in a loss of yardage, but as many of you know, his contract with the Birds expires following the 2022 season.
While there remains some gray area on whether or not Fletcher Cox may resign (nothing would surprise us at this point), in the minds of some, the prospect of Hargrave resigning in Philadelphia seems even less likely. In fairness, there are others that think he’ll be back on a team-friendly deal.
Like Cox, Hargrave also has the potential of carrying a price tag in the $10-15 million range annually, and while voidable years could give him a cap hit of closer to $5 million, Hargrave’s age complicates a potential deal.
Javon Hargrave is only 29 years old. He might seek a multi-year deal where he earns well above $5 million for, at minimum, the first two years. While a deal could be done, Jordan Davis figures to play a bigger role in 2023. That could complicate the possibility of Hargrave remaining with the Eagles as well.
