There are reasons to vote for Jalen Hurts and Patrick Mahomes if we simply look at numbers.

Following Week 12, the MVP race seems to currently be a two-man race featuring two players: Jalen Hurts and Patrick Mahomes. Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa still looms as the third man, but as the Eagles learned in 2017 with Carson Wentz, having a player miss multiple games can be a death sentence to their MVP campaign.

Hurts and Mahomes have appeared in 11 games. Here’s a look at their stat lines:

Jalen Hurts

Passing Yards: 2,560
Passing Touchdowns: 17
Interceptions: 3
QBR: 68.2
Passer Rating 105.6
Completion Percentage: 67.3
Rushing Yards: 597
Rushing Touchdowns: 8
Record: 10-1

Patrick Mahomes

Passing Yards: 3,585
Passing Touchdowns: 29
Interceptions: 8
QBR: 77.3
Passer Rating: 105.3
Completion Percentage: 66.1
Rushing Yards: 274
Rushing Touchdowns: 1
Record: 9-2

There are many similarities in both quarterbacks’ games. Both are leading winning teams. Both are significantly responsible for their respective teams winning. It shouldn’t be a surprise that both have placed themselves in the conversation for individual honors at season’s end. If they keep this up, both will receive votes at season’s end.
