Who would have thunk? A few members of the NFL’s best offensive line walked into a recording studio with the intent of dropping an album, one they’d release for charity.  That album was released on December 23rd by way of the LP’s website, phillyspecialchrtismas.com. Less than one full month later, three Philadelphia Eagles, Jason Kelce, Lane Johnson, and Jordan Mailata, have a certifiable hit on their hands. Their project has found its way to the top of the charts.

Gosh, time flies! The first month of the new year is almost halfway over, and it feels like it was just yesterday when we were popping the champagne. Christmas is even further in the rearview mirror, but what a time that was! We were all looking for cheesesteaks to set out for Santa and copies of A Philly Special Christmas to give a few spins for the holiday.

Flash forward, and according to an early-January release by Billboard, that project has charted in the top ten on four album charts. That includes a number-one re-entry on the Compilation Albums tally as well as a number-nine imprint on the list of top-selling albums.

Why would be surprised though? Maybe that’s the better question. This is how Eagles Nation operates when called into action.

Eagles linemen Jason Kelce, Lane Johnson, and Jordan Mailata are both figurative and literal rock stars.

You’ve probably learned by now that Philly is a different animal. In most cities, quarterbacks are the faces of its franchise. That’s true to some extent in the City of Brotherly Love as well. Jalen Hurts is the man, but our great country’s first capital city plays by its own set of rules when it comes to these types of things.

The Eagles’ most beloved players of all time are a safety (Brian Dawkins) and a center (Jason Kelce). Only in Philly, right?

The hard-working citizens of this town love a fictional boxer (Rocky Balboa) as much as they love one who actually owned a birth certificate (Joe Frazier), and even though they may not always remember the final score of a game, they can definitely remember when someone gets knocked out or run over.

Jason Kelce, Lane Johnson, and Jordan Mailata have been rock stars in the figurative sense for a while now, but now, they’re also literal rock stars thanks to A Philly Special Christmas and its success.

The release features seven tracks including renditions of “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town” and “White Christmas”. Long-time play-by-play announcer Merrill Reese even lends his voice to “The Night Before Christmas”.

No, that isn’t a typo. Merrill Reese is on the album. Knowing that all profits from the LP benefited Philadelphia’s Children’s Crisis Treatment Center was reason enough to pick this one up, but who are we kidding? These are the Birds we’re talking about.

As soon as we knew Kelce and company were hitting the studio, every Eagles fan in the Delaware Valley and everywhere else on Planet Earth knew this one was going to be a chart-topper. Hey, that’s just how this midnight green family operates.
