The Eagles look to make history on the Super Bowl stage by claiming another win.

Sunday will mark the fourth-ever Super Bowl appearance by the Philadelphia Eagles, and they will certainly have their work cut out for them against Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. The Eagles haven’t fared as well on the NFL’s biggest stage as we would have hoped over their storied history.

Way back following the 1980 season, QB Ron Jaworski helped his team cruise to a Super Bowl berth, but the Eagles were embarrassed by the Raiders in a 10-27 loss. From there Philly had a long drought without much playoff success.

In the early 2000s, Philadelphia put together an impressive roster that has found ample playoff success. With a young Donovan McNabb leading the charge, Philly won at least 11 games in four of five seasons from 2000 to 20004.

Some of these seasons were followed by deep playoff runs. Sadly, they often fell just short of achieving their Super Bowl aspirations. When they finally reached the big game with this impressive unit in 2004, the Eagles’ season ended in heartbreak as it was the Patriots who were crowned champions.

Entering Super Bowl 57 against the Kansas City Chiefs, the Eagles are 1-2 all-time in the NFL’s biggest game.

Can Jalen Hurts join Nick Foles as the only Eagles QB to climb the Super Bowl’s mountain?

To date, there has only been one quarterback to ever win a Super Bowl for the Eagles:

  • Nick Foles: Super Bowl 52

While he’s hardly the most famous quarterback in Eagles history, Nick Foles quickly became a hero to Eagles fans and his place in franchise lore is secure.

During Super Bowl 52 versus the New England Patriots, he completed 28 of 43 passes for 373 yards with three touchdowns versus one interception. His 106.1 passer rating was enough to narrowly vault Philadelphia to a 41-33 win over Tom Brady and the Pats.

Ironically, Foles wasn’t even the starter for the Eagles for most of the 2017 season. That job belonged to a former first-round pick, Carson Wentz (who started 13 games and went 11-2 that year). Fortunately, the hot hand of Foles was able to prevail on the NFL’s biggest stage when it mattered most.

Now five years later, fans are hoping that we can see Jalen Hurts added to this list of Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks for Philadelphia. Hurts finished second in MVP voting behind Mahomes (who ran away with the award this year). Still, Jalen had a career year as he recorded 35 total touchdowns to go with just six interceptions.

His ability to protect the football, move the chains, and find receivers downfield played a big hand in the team having a record of 14-1 when he started during the 2022-2023 regular season. He’s 2-0 during the postseason this year.

With a victory on Sunday, the Philadelphia Eagles could double their list of Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks. They’ve been so close in the past. We all know they need this.
