EDGE. Clemson. Myles Murphy. 10. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. player. 54

The Philadelphia Eagles would easily satisfy their EDGE needs with the addition of Myles Murphy.

Standing at six-foot-five and weighing in at 275 pounds, Clemson’s Myles Murphy has no issues establishing his presence on the edge. He collected 17.5 sacks and 37 tackles for loss in three seasons at Clemson, and he just turned 21 on January 3rd.

There are mixed reports stemming from the combine. Some are suggesting that Murphy may go as high as the top five. Others believe he’d be available as late as the late teens or 20s in Round 1. Where he lands could depend on when other edge rushers like Alabama’s Will Anderson Jr., Texas Tech’s Tyree Wilson, and Iowa’s Lukas Van Ness come off of the board.

Murphy is currently ranked 20th on NFL.com’s Daniel Jeremiah’s most recent top 50 2023 NFL Draft prospect rankings, and some mock drafts, such as that belonging to Dane Brugler of The Athletic, show Murphy as still being available past the midpoint.

Murphy’s combination of athleticism, size, and youth makes him worthy of being a top-ten choice. He has showcased a high motor while playing for Dabo Swinney, Brent Venables, and Wes Goodwin’s defense, and he’s a threat to corral mobile quarterbacks.

While there’s a growing contingent that believes the Eagles should consider adding a defensive back with the tenth pick, history suggests it probably won’t happen. They may, again, address those needs as we inch closer to the regular season, but our hope is the find one at 30.

In terms of Murphy, he’s a blue-chip edge rusher that may not have made noise at the combine (he only participated in one drill), but he did, however, throw up a respectable 25 reps on the bench press. That certainly got everyone’s attention. His strength and size will translate to the NFL.
