31. . . . New York Giants. . team

The Giants need to hand last year’s Coach of the Year trophy over to the Eagles, but in truth, the G-Men have some talent.

Yeah, we’re bitter. Deal with it.

We sat here for two months and believed this theory would go away, and it hasn’t. Perhaps you can answer this question. How is it that a head coach is predicted to finish third in his division, he does exactly that, and walks away with the NFL’s Coach of the Year trophy?

Brian Daboll is pretty good, but a third-place finish does not a Coach of the Year make, especially when he lost to the division winner, Nick Sirianni three times. Now that we have gotten that off of our chests, here are two breakout candidates to watch in 2023.

LB Darrian Beavers

Don’t let a couple of blowout wins over Big Blue fool you. There’s more talent on their defense than you might expect, and Darrian Beavers is someone to pay attention to.

A sixth-round draft choice of the Giants in 2022, he looked good in the preseason and was expected to make a difference last year before tearing his ACL. He could see significant snaps next fall.

OL Ben Bredeson

While naming an interior defensive lineman as a breakout candidate won’t move the needle, keep in mind the fact that these are the Giants we’re discussing. What in the heck do they know about being exciting? There’s more to the story though.

We also spoke with a friend of ours, GMenHQ editor Braulio Perez. He says Bredeson could be the team’s next starting center with Nick Gates and Jon Feliciano leaving town and a solid piece along the O-line for years to come. Hey, if our guy Braulio says it, that’s good enough for us.
