First-round targets, free-agent replacements Eagles could land by trading back
There’s a chance the Eagles can land Bijan Robinson after ten (if they’re interested). Maybe, if they wait until the end of Round 1, Gibbs will be there.
We’d be shocked if the Eagles took a running back in Round 1. Let’s take some time and talk about a few anyway.
A popular name that has been associated with the Eagles for months, Bijan Robinson may be the best running back prospect we’ve seen since Saquon Barkley entered the draft from Penn State in 2018.
Robinson racked up 257 carries, resulting in 1,575 yards, 18 touchdowns, and an average of 6.1 yards per tote in 2022. That resulted in over 3,400 yards and 33 rushing touchdowns for his career.
Robinson visited Philadelphia on March 20th for a top-30 pre-draft visit. Time will determine if this was the result of due diligence or genuine interest from Philadelphia. Either way, there’s no denying that Robinson could add another dimension to the defending NFC Champions’ rushing attack in 2023.
If Philly opts against taking Bijan Robinson early in the draft, landing Alabama’s Jahmyr Gibbs at 30th overall would be an amazing consolation prize at the end of the first round.
He earned 983 total yards and six total touchdowns in just nine games during the 2022 NCAA football season with an average of 6.3 yards per carry. He also ran a 4.36-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine and showed plenty of burst during his time with the Crimson Tide.
Selecting Gibbs in the first round would also give the Eagles a fifth-year option. If exercised, he could be a member of this roster through the 2027 season. That would afford extra flexibility with a potential Jalen Hurts extension looming. He may be slightly undersized. He’s five-foot-nine and weighs 199 pounds, but the Eagles know how to find success with smaller running backs. Just ask Boston Scott.
