Don’t be shocked if the Eagles make a surprise defensive addition in Round 1.

Now, we’re cooking. In all honesty, halfway through this story, we realized this story was written for one reason. All we wanted to discuss was possible defensive prospects who might be worthy of surprise additions. Here are a few guys that we really like, guys we don’t mention as often as we think we should. Most won’t wind up with the Birds, but all would be solid additions if they did.

We begin with a guy that has grown on us as of late.

Interior defensive linemen: Calijah Kancey (Did we just say that?)

It sounds ridiculous to call Calijah Kancey underrated, especially when we’ve seen him mocked to Philadelphia at ten on more than one occasion, but he absolutely is in some circles. We’ve come to our senses though. We like this guy a lot.

Whether fair or unfair, he has drawn comparisons to Aaron Donald. We get it. Both are interior defensive linemen that played at PITT. Much has been made about both of them being too small (though that’s less of an issue for Donald these days). Some may ask why we have heard this as much as we have. We’d rather ask another question.

What if there is more to those comparisons than we mention?

We get it though. Some of you still are struggling with the ‘underrated’ label being thrown on Kancey, so check out Mazi Smith (Michigan) and Bryan Bresee (Clemson). we don’t spend enough time talking about those guys either.
