Nnamdi Asomugha. 24. player. 54. . .

We all thought Nnamdi Asomugha was the dream signing. Unfortunately, this one still gives us nightmares.

The 2011 season was the beginning of the end of Andy Reid’s era in Philly. Seemingly, no offseason addition or draft selection could calm what became a raging fire.

The biggest signing of the aforementioned ‘Dream Team” was Nnamdi Asomugha. He was a former three-time Pro Bowler and two-time All-Pro cornerback who made a name for himself as a member of the Oakland Raiders. He had nothing left upon his arrival in Philadelphia.

He had to know that, yet he accepted a five-year, $60 million contract anyway. Frankly, this sort of feels like stealing.

Asomugha was supposed to be an elite lockdown cornerback. He was nothing of the sort. He racked up 311 tackles, two sacks, one fumble, one fumble recovery, 61 pass deflections, 11 interceptions, and a pick-six during his time with the Raiders but couldn’t keep up with anyone in Philly. He racked up 95 tackles and four interceptions in 32 games. State Representative Nnamdi Chukwuocha would have been a better pickup.

Asomugha’s play didn’t live up to the large contract. Local media and fans let him know it. He was out after only two seasons. He might be the worst free agent signing the Eagles have ever made. If he isn’t, he can easily be argued into the top three.
