The NFL is a different animal. It’s the only television product that is broadcasted on ESPN, NBC, CBS, and FOX. Its coming draft draws more viewers than most NBA, NHL, and MLB postseason games. Breaking news about the sport trumps anything. Think about it this way. The 76ers had just taken a 1-0 lead over the Brooklyn Nets. The Phillies had split two games versus the Cincinnati Reds on Saturday and Sunday, and with all of that going on, guess what happened? The Philadelphia Eagles announced Jalen Hurts new five-year extension and stole all of the headlines.

Coincidence? Of course, it wasn’t. Jalen plays one of the most recognizable positions in all of sports and is one of the young stars in our great country’s most popular game. This is what occurs when these types of moves are announced.

Shortly, after the ink dried on a brand new $255 million deal with more than $179 million guaranteed, Essence dropped a cover feature. Trust us on this one. It’s a must-read.

Eagles news: Jalen Hurts is compared to Kobe Bryant/Beyonce.

Poll Eagles fans and NFL pundits, and you won’t find any objections to Jalen Hurts’ payday. He has earned it. Perhaps the most laser-focused 24-year-old that the world has ever known, QB1 is enjoying the fruits of his labor. Jalen outplayed the game’s best signal-caller and the current MVP, Patrick Mahomes, on football’s grandest stage in Super Bowl LVII… But, he lost. Something tells us that he’ll be even MORE intense now.

Danyel Smith’s sit-down with Jalen allows us to get to know Philly’s signal-caller in ways we often don’t. He likes his coffee scalding hot, black, and with honey, and his work ethic and effort have drawn him a comparison we haven’t heard yet. This one comes courtesy of his agent, Nicole Lynn.

"Hurts’s agent, Nicole Lynn, says she doesn’t often post him to her Instagram feed—“because I get all the DMs, and I’m like, Hey, that’s my little bro. Everybody gotta chill.” But Lynn knows what she’s working with. “He’s a mixture of Kobe Bryant and Beyoncé,” she says. An avid Bey fan, Lynn knows she’s said a mouthful, but hear her out. “Jalen gives you so little in public,” she explains. “Even when you’re talking to him, you want more. You don’t really know him. He’s not intentionally secretive but naturally has this elusive I need to know, I need more. That’s Beyoncé. It makes you wanna know them. It makes you wanna root for them.” And as for the late Kobe Bryant? “Jalen’s got the Kobe obsessive work ethic. Shooting for greatness. And never satisfied.”"

Okay, so let’s recap. Jalen is Tom Brady, Kobe Bryant, and Beyonce rolled into one. Yep, we’d say that’s worth a $255 million payday.

Oh, and here’s the kicker. His extension will end before his 30th birthday. He should cash in again if everything goes according to plan. With a history-making agent like Lynn handling his affairs, we can safely state he’s in good hands moving forward.

More Eagles news: News breaks of minor Jalen Hurts procedure.

Here’s one that definitely deserves mentioning. Again, any news of Jalen Hurts trumps everything else.

ESPN’s Tim McManus reports Philly’s star quarterback underwent surgery to remove ‘hardware’ in his ankle that had been inserted after he suffered a high-ankle sprain during his days with the Alabama Crimson Tide. While the timing of the news seems a little strange (one day after his extension was signed), there’s really no need to panic here.

"Hurts suffered a high ankle sprain while playing for the University of Alabama in an October 2018 game against Tennessee, sources said. Hurts was sidelined for nearly a month before returning to play in November of that season."

QB1 underwent this procedure in February, and according to sources, this is to be considered minor. He has already returned to his offseason workout routine and won’t miss any time during the Eagles’ offseason training program that begins next week.
