3 studs the Philadelphia Eagles could have drafted in 2005
The Eagles missed out on three studs in the 2005 NFL Draft who could have all made huge impacts.
In the NFL Draft, there are no takebacks There is no reset button. The Philadelphia Eagles can’t select a player and just erase him from a chalkboard. Once names are written on the draft card, the franchise must live with the success or disappointment that comes with their choice.
Sometimes, it’s still hard not to ask ‘What if?’.
Philadelphia added 11 prospects in the 2005 draft. Mike Patterson, Reggie Brown, Todd Herremans, and Trent Cole are who we most remember. Herremans and Cole, perhaps the cream of the crop, were chosen during the fourth and fifth rounds, respectively.
Patterson, the first-round selection, earned a spot on the Pro Football Writers of America’s All-Rookie Team and spent eight seasons with the franchise. Brown, the second-round choice, had some early success but fizzled after having only played five seasons.
This time of the NFL calendar year is about new beginnings and hope, but it’s also about avoiding the same mistakes a team has made. Every once in a while, however, we think of what might have been and tell stories like this one.
Here’s a look at a trio that would have been fun to watch in Philly. The Birds passed on all three, and even though nothing can be done, it’s intriguing.
