Top 10 best undrafted free agent signings by the Eagles
Chad Lewis earned three Pro Bowl nods and a Second-Team All-Pro designation during nine NFL seasons with the Eagles.
There isn’t one Eagles fan that doesn’t absolutely love Chad Lewis. Who would have thought? His story began with Philly adding him as an undrafted free agent following the 1997 NFL Draft.
During his rookie season, he didn’t catch the ball much, but when he did he made his opportunities count. 12 receptions in his first run with the Birds led to 94 yards and four touchdowns.
Two seasons later, he was released. He landed with the St. Louis Rams, but they elected to cut him after ten weeks had passed.
The Birds brought him back the next year, and he found his role, remaining with the team for six more seasons. He would go on to collect 2,179 receiving yards with 16 touchdowns during that span. He earned three consecutive trips to the Pro Bowl from 2001 until 2002.
The highlight of Lewis’ Eagles career might be when he hauled in a late fourth-quarter game-clinching touchdown in the NFC Championship Game versus the Atlanta Falcons. Sadly, he suffered a Lisfranc injury, one that kept him out of Philadelphia’s Super Bowl XXXIX loss to the New England Patriots. L.J. Smith scored the game’s first touchdown in his absence.
