Have you ever gotten so close to someone that you begin finishing their sentences? As you get older, are you starting to recognize that, more often now than ever, you sound a lot like your mother or father? The people we spend the majority of our time around influence us. It’s almost impossible not to pick up some of their traits. Philadelphia Eagles Executive Vice President/General Manager Howie Roseman is a huge fan of Jalen Hurts, so much so that we’re beginning to notice something.

Jalen’s personality might be rubbing off on the two-time Pro Football Writers of America’s  Executive of the Year.

We’re used to hearing one-liners from QB1 and being witness to a mic-drop moment or two. Heck, now and again, we remind ourselves to “keep the main thing the main thing”, but we’ll be honest. Before tuning into WIP-FM’s Morning Show to hear Joe DeCamera and Jon Ritchie’s talk with Howie, we weren’t expecting to walk away with yet another phrase we’d like to see emblazoned on a t-shirt.

Let’s make long stories short. If this G.M. gig, for whatever reason, goes left and Howie needs to seek employment elsewhere, we recommend a job in the WWE because his mic game is phenomenal.

Here are three huge takeaways we had to steal from Howie Roseman’s talk with 94 WIP-FM’s Morning Show.

Be honest. Even if you are satisfied with the Jalen Carter and Nolan Smith selections, you have to have thought about the Bijan Robinson scenario at some point. That topic took center stage during Howie Roseman’s near-half-hour chat with Ritchie and DeCamara.

Buckle those seatbelts. Here are a few nuggets from that conversation.

On Bijan Robinson: Would Howie have drafted him at the tenth-overall selection?

"I think, at the end of the day, we got the right guys, and there is no ‘what-if’ here. There is only ‘what is’."

On Jalen Hurts’ deal: Did he take one for the team?

"I don’t want to speak for Jalen. That’s not fair. We know what kind of person Jalen Hurts is. We know how much he cares about winning. We know how much he cares about the team, and he understands the most important thing is having a team. This is not a one-man show. The National Football League is the ultimate team sport… For us, we need to build a team. We need to build a team, and that was always important to him throughout the process. He deserves a tremendous amount of credit, him and his agent, for taking that leap and not saying ‘I’m just going to wait for a couple of guys to go’. That shows how much faith he has in his ability and how much faith he has in us, that we can surround him with the right people."

On Jonathan Gannon: How does Howie Roseman feel about Jonathan Gannon now? Is he angry at him?

"I’m mad that we’re talking about the Super Bowl. I’m mad that I have to go back to that moment, that we had a chance to win our second world championship. It drives me. All this other stuff… It doesn’t help us win games, so we (have to) move on from it and figure out the best way to win games. That (the tampering investigation) was handled at the ownership level, at the league level. I can only control what we can, which is adding as many good players and as many good people as we possibly can."

There you have it, straight from the source himself. All in all, this was a nice listen. Give this one a spin when you can. It’s worth your time.

Philly’s general manager was both open and candid. That’s all you can ask for. Now, we move on… to thoughts about the rookie minicamp and what needs to be done to get this team back to football’s biggest game (and win it).

We can’t wait to see the Philadelphia Eagles back on the field and competing in Week 1. Until then, rest easy. Your favorite team is home to the game’s top executive, and no envy from other GMs or disparaging remarks will change that.

Hot. Best and worst decisions made by every Eagles rival. light
