Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman rarely misses on moves, but not re-signing Isaiah Rodgers might be high on that list.
During the offseason, the Eagles overhauled their secondary when key players like Darius Slay, Avonte Maddox, C.J. Gardner-Johnson, James Bradberry, and Rodgers left the team either by not re-signing, being released, or being traded. There was an emphasis on getting younger and building around Quinyon Mitchell, Cooper DeJean, and Reed Blankenship in the secondary.
Roseman decided to go with cheaper options instead of bringing in Adoree' Jackson to have a veteran in the secondary. This set up the battle at CB2 between Jackson and Kelee Ringo.
So far, it hasn't been the most consistent between the two as they have both gotten starts in the regular season. Both have done fine, but the Eagles could have re-signed Rodgers, and that is starting to backfire on them badly.
Rodgers is making Roseman pay for not giving him a new contract
Not many cornerbacks in the NFL right now are playing at the level of Rodgers, who signed with the Minnesota Vikings this offseason. He has been playing at such an elite level that he is likely to be an early candidate for the Pro Bowl, All-Pro, and possibly Defensive Player of the Year.
Breaking down his numbers through five games, look at what Rodgers has done via the X account, vikesinsider.
- Week 1: Rome Odunze: 2 receptions, 13 yards
- Week 2: Drake London: 1 reception, 21 yards
- Week 3: Tee Higgins: 0 receptions, 0 yards
- Week 4: DK Metcalf: 1 reception, 14 yards
- Week 5: Jerry Jeudy: 0 rec, 0 yards
Pro Football Focus has given him an overall grade of 85.9, which ranks second among 167 cornerbacks that qualify. Rodgers has racked up 19 tackles, two tackles for loss, two pass deflections, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery for a touchdown, and one interception for a touchdown. All those turnovers came in one game against the Bengals.

There's always going to be regrets in life, and for Roseman, Rodgers is a massive one that could have helped the Eagles this season on defense.
