Philadelphia Eagles fans are hoping they are mere hours away from seeing the breaking news ticker saying wide receiver A.J. Brown has been traded to the New England Patriots.

Brown has been rumored to be going to the Patriots for months, but the Eagles have held off on a trade so that they can cut the dead cap in half and spread it out over the next two years, as well as save $7 million against the cap. In the past, there were other teams like the Los Angeles Rams and Baltimore Ravens who were involved in trade conversations with the Eagles for Brown, but ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter isn't seeing any kind of curveball from another team.

"In my mind, there were two suitors in March. One was the Rams, and one was the Patriots," Schefter said via 97.5 The Fanatic. "The Rams looked into it and allocated their resources elsewhere; the Patriots never did that. So, is there another team out there with a need at wide receiver that would be willing to part with a future (first-round pick)? I don't see it. It didn't materialize in March, April, or May. Could it happen? Sure, there was a blue moon last night, but I don't expect it."

Over the last week, the Kansas City Chiefs and Jacksonville Jaguars were also named as teams that could be interested in Brown, but there has not been any concrete evidence that they actually called about it. It was always going to be the Patriots, despite the Rams reportedly being very close to getting Brown back in March.

Brown wants to be with the Patriots primarily to reunite with his former head coach, Mike Vrabel. It also helps that he would be the undisputed number-one receiver for Drake Maye and get plenty of targets.

The Eagles just want to move on from Brown to make him happy and end the unnecessary drama he brings. Philly already has a crowded wide receiver room with DeVonta Smith, Makai Lemon, Dontayvion Wicks, Marquise "Hollywood" Brown, and Elijah Moore there.

This trade is going to happen, and Eagles fans have to be patient to see when it will. The good news is they shouldn't expect any surprises, as the Patriots should be the only team to make a trade.
